Contemporary classes emphasize classic and emerging techniques, alignment, grounded and dynamic movement, and the basic kinesthetics of modern dance.
Contemporary 1
This class concentrates on body awareness, exploring different levels, traveling movements and positions, and increasing the body’s strength and flexibility. The concept of fall and recovery, jumps, turns, improvisation and exploration of musical rhythms, and their dynamics are introduced.
Contemporary 2
This technique class builds on the principles taught in Contemporary 1 and begins the exploration of head tail connection, inversions, floor work, and dynamic qualities. Students will also focus on musicality and their strength and flexibility to enhance range of motion. (Ballet is strongly recommended.)
